Back to School

It's almost time to go back to school! So grab your backpacks and pencils and get ready for another great year of learning and fun! School starts Wednesday, September 1 and it is a full day of school for all students. The school day for middle school students (grades 6-8) is from 7:45 a.m. to 2:46 p.m. and it's 8:25 a.m. to 3:25 p.m. for intermediate (grades 3-5) students. Be sure to attend the Open House from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 8.

With construction of the new addition occurring, all non-construction traffic (parent, staff, teacher, bus, deliveries, etc.) will take place in the east lot, thus making for crowded conditions. It is especially important that parents and students take extra precautions in the parking lot. Children should be under adult supervision at all times.

Summer Reading

{jathumbnail}The administrators, teachers and staff of Trevor Grade School encourage parents to read to and with their children each day during the summer vacation. The more children read, the better readers they become. In reading, as in many other areas, practice makes a difference. You are encouraged to obtain a library card for your children at the Salem Community Library. Sign them up for the summer reading activities and visit the library often with your children. We recommend that your children read at least 10 books during the summer months. Children are encouraged to choose from the list for the grade they will enter in the fall.

Tips for Parents

Allow children to choose books that interest them, but encourage them to explore different authors, themes, and genres (biography, adventure, historical fiction, science fiction or fantasy, poetry, and others).

For strong readers, choose books with an appropriate but stimulating reading level or reluctant readers, choose books they can read without difficulty but will hold their interest.

Encourage children to read for a specified period of time every day (30 minutes to 1 hour) at a regular time.

Read with and to your children and talk to them about what they are reading.

Attend public library children's programs and encourage your children to have fun with reading!
